The Urban Aquafarm™ was designed to be mobile and easily moved through doorways where the unit could be positioned on a balcony or in front of an apartment window for sunlight. This design was made of timber and PVC plastic which was readily available however, the production model will be made of polyethylene food grade plastic.
The production model will be solar powered with an additional option of AC 110v with l.e.d grow lights where sunlight exposure is limited. The unit is designed to supplement a small family’s food nutrition, based on the hydroponic rule of thumb that 25 square foot area is sufficient to produce nutrients to sustain one adult.
The unit is less than 30 inches wide, to pass through doorways, 6 foot long with an optional extra extension up to 8 feet long. The overall unit footprint is triple layered to increase the growing area to approximately 35 square feet. The fish tank is designed to support up to ten pounds of Tilapia fish which could be used as a breeding Tank.
